Use with Assay Technology badges and record all your monitoring information and notes using your smart device. Have your lab request form generated automatically with this time saving app.
- Initiate the badge documentation process by scanning the badge QR code or typing in the badge ID. The QR code/badge ID connects you to technical information about the badge: shelf life, holding time after sampling, shipping and storage information, analyte list, and more.
- App timer tracks elapsed sampling time. The app sends an alert as time is nearing completion. Optional manual entry of time sampled is also available.
- Enter notes specific to each sample. Notes can be for yourself, or comments for our lab.
- When the project is complete, automatically generate your lab request forms. Send a copy to yourself and a copy to the lab.
- Create projects to include all badges for one sampling event.
- Use our web portal to review and download all your reports. You will need your customer number and password and access your reports 24/7.
- The app will archive previous projects.

How do I get the app?
Can I operate the app while in airplane mode?
Yes. You can use the app and collect data. However, to complete a project, you have to turn off airplane mode and connect to your network.
I can't log into the Web Portal to assess my historical reports.
Some Internet Explorer browser users have reported they are unable to log into their web portal. This appears to be only an Internet Explorer issue. Switch to Google Chrome or other browser while we address this issue.
I am having trouble logging into the app.
Wrong Customer # (User ID) entered:
The user ID for the APP is your customer number. It is not your email address. For existing customers, the customer number is the same as the number on your reports. For new customers, a number will be assigned to you and emailed to the email address you have entered into the APP.
Wrong Password entered:
These days, there are so many passwords, so many user IDs, it is pretty much impossible to keep them all straight. Passwords are case sensitive. So, make sure you are entering the password correctly. If you are having trouble, call us and we will reset your account with a temporary password.
Username vs Customer ID
The APP has a link on the login page: “Forgot username or password?” If you tap it, it will direct you to call us. But the term ‘username’ leads people to believe we are looking for an email address or their name. It should say ‘Customer Number’. We will get that fixed with the next update.
APP vs Online store
The user ID on the APP is your customer number. The user ID on the Online store is your email address. We have good reasons for this, but people get them mixed up from time to time.
The app does not recognize any of the badges or the chemical list does not seem right.
The app is constantly getting updated with new valid badges. It needs access to the internet from time to time. If your device is in airplane mode, the most recently manufactured badges will not be available. Go to the bottom of the main menu of the app and see when the last time the data tables were updated. If it is not very recent, this is likely the issue.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Sometimes there can be a problem with the installation of any app.
If you are typing the serial number in, make sure you are entering only the serial number of the badge. The label on Assay badges have the LOT number and SERIAL number. For example, 11A12 – AB1234. The serial number is AB1234. Do not enter the lot number. Hydrogen peroxide badges are not manufactured by Assay Technology and do not follow the same format. Enter the whole number: 123456.
Another possibility is the badge is not yet into the app database. Call our customer service team.
I was told my email address was too long.
This setting was changed to handle longer email addresses. If you signed up with a shorter email address, but would prefer to change to your regular email, contact our customer service department.
I completed my project, but I need to edit some information. What do I do?
You can edit information before you complete the project. Completing the project will archive it and send you a completed lab request form to your email or fax. At this point the information is locked because the app also sends your information to AT Labs for automated login. If you need to change information after completing the project in the app, but before sending the badges, note the changes on the lab request form. When the badges are received, your change will be noted by our staff.
I want to enter my badge start time, but I don't know my badge stop time yet.
Enter the start time, but leave the stop time empty. The app will mark this badge as incomplete. A project with an incomplete badge cannot be completed. When you know the stop time, enter it.
Can I use the SmartBadge app for other sampling media?
The app is designed for use with only Assay Technology badges, as a perk to our badge customers. Sampling information for other media can be documented using our Generic Lab Request Form online.
The app crashes when I try to scan a badge's QR code (serial number).
The app does not have permission to use the camera on your device. iPhone users need to uninstall and reinstall the app, allowing the app to use the phone’s camera. Android users can see the video for the fix that takes a minute or two.
I am using a TraceAir badge (580 or 521). How do I tell the lab how many covers I removed during sampling?
Please indicate the number of covers removed in the sample notes.
